Over Thanksgiving we camped at Desoto State Park in Fort Payne, Alabama. We had heard this campground was nice and thankfully it lived up to it’s reputation.
We stayed in the lower campground in site 84. This was perfect for us in our pop up camper because the bathhouse was right through the woods behind us. The sites were very spacious. Our close proximity to the bathhouse gave us wifi at our campsite.
The park had a nice playground, nature center, camp store, CCC museum and a variety of hiking trails.
We visited the park in the middle of a drought so all of the creeks were dry within the park but it was still very beautiful. I can only imagine how pretty everything would have been during normal conditions.
Just outside the state park is the Sally Howard Memorial Chapel. This church was built into the side of a rock. There is a sign on the front door that reads, “This Chapel Door, like God is always open”. I loved that.
